Our homeschool group is going strong and growing! Every Thursday at 1:30pm we meet for socialization, activities, arts and crafts and more. Our projects in the last year have included junk journals, building our own board games, autumn wreaths, robotic hands, designing and decorating our own tee shirts, millinary, story writing, painting on canvas, science projects, and trivia games. We have a LEGO day once a month and a game day every now and then.

Our homeschool group will be doing lots of eclipse related activities between now and April 8. Our first project was the Eclipse-in-a-Cup science experiment which turned out very well.

On the 29th of February, we will begin work on our Eclipse 2024 tee shirts. These will take 2 or 3 weeks to complete. Each child will need to bring a new black tee shirt that has been laundered. Paints and other materials will be provided. To participate in this event you MUST come in to the library and sign up BEFORE February 22. A sign up sheet will be available during open hours between Monday, February 5 and Thursday, February 22. We have room for only 18 and our regular homeschool group members will have priority. Others are first-come first-served so sign up early!

The Texarkana Chapter of the Red Cross will be at the Red River County Public Library on April 4 at 2 P.M. for a Be Red Cross Ready presentation. This program provides basic information about emergency preparedness, including assembling an emergency supply kit, making plans for various hazards, and staying informed during and after an emergency. The presentation also covers Hand-Only CPR and resources individuals can utilize to improve their emergency preparedness. The duration of the presentation is approximately 45 minutes.  After the first session for adults, the team will have a presentation that is geared to children aged 7-10 to help them know what to do during an emergency. There is no charge to attend.

There will also be a Medicare Information Session on April 5 at 2 P.M. in the library. If you need to enroll in medicare or just need more information about the benefits available to you, plan on attending this session.

Did you know that we have storytime each Tuesday morning from 10:30AM to 11:15AM for ages 1-4? We sing songs, use rhythm instruments, do finger plays and other activities and of course we read a wonderful story or two! Since COVID our storytime has intermittently been online to help protect our little ones. We are now live and in person each Tuesday. Along with our planned activities, we have some beautiful wooden puzzles, a tub of blocks and much, much more. If you know anyone with little ones, please pass this along to them. This is a free program and is open to everyone in Red River County! Call us at 903-427-3991 for more information or follow our Facebook page.
