A morning to look forward to...

If you're ready to get out in this beautiful weather and enjoy a bit of history (like I am) - this is for you!

Sidney Young will be interviewing Mary Walker Clark at 11am, Saturday October 17th, at Holy Cross courtyard in Paris (courtyard bordering the beautiful Bywaters Park.) I'm excited to get my hands on this book, and listen to the author's insights. And, it's all outdoors!
Here's a review taken from the Mary's web page marywalkerclark.com
“This fascinating World War II story of Clark’s father’s adventures seemingly touches on every continent while centered on his perilous flights from India across the Himalayas to resupply the Chinese, a perilous route known as “The Hump”. It’s part mystery thriller, part history class, part travelogue, and 100% page burning awesomeness.”
Jeffrey Lehmann
Host & Producer of the multi Emmy awarded “Weekend Explorer” travel series on PBS and broadcasters worldwide.

RSVP for your book sculpture packet!

Online book sculpture class for teens and adults! Thursday, July 23 at 2pm and Friday, July 24 at 11AM. This is a very simple craft that looks impressive. We can use Facebook rooms or, if you prefer, I can do a live video and you may ask questions as we go along. If you're interested, send us a message.
For this craft, you will need a very sharp pencil (a mechanical pencil is best), a good ruler, a discarded (but good shape) hard cover book and the pattern. A folding bone would be helpful, but it is optional. I will have books, patterns and mechanical pencils ready to pick up, at the library. RSVP by Tuesday, so I know how many packets to make up!

Summer Reading is Here!

Imagine YOUR Story!
Each week, for an eight week period (June 8 - July 31), the library is providing a new story walk for you and your family to enjoy!  Posted on the shady sidewalk between the north side of the library and the post office (you can't miss it), we hope to give your family an excuse to get out of the house and enjoy a story together- all while practicing social distancing!
Currently we are on Week 3 of our Summer Reading Program, but it's NEVER too late to join in!

When you finish the story stop by the library (during regular hours) and pick up a weekly reading challenge packet for kids 2-12.  The challenges are fun, new each week and most of the supplies are provided.

Kids can return their challenge sheet anytime the next week to get a reward!  (and hopefully enjoy the new story walk erected each Monday by noon.)

Remember, a new story, a new challenge, and a reward will be available each week - so come back often!

****Adults aged 13-113 Don’t forget - We have prizes for you as well! Drop us a slip of paper with your name, number, and two books that you’ve read (during the months of June/July) and we’ll enter you in a drawing for dinner (or carry out) for two at one of our area restaurants!!

Reopening - June 24th!

Welcome back!!
For the time being, there are modifications and limits while our county Covid numbers are high.

๐Ÿ‘‰Please be aware of the following:
*masks are required
*limit of four patrons at a time
*limit visits to 30 minutes or less
*appointment for 30 minute computer session encouraged

We will still try to do curbside for those more susceptible. ๐Ÿ’—

*Edited to add- there will be no children’s activities available at this time (computers, toys, STEAM boxes.)
We ARE continuing the summer reading program with the outdoor storywalk, online storytime, and challenge packets available for pickup.

Reopening Soon - But not quite yet...

We are still offering curbside service!
Send us your book requests, faxes and copies to be made - we’ll have them ready! ๐Ÿ˜Š
We plan on opening the doors ๐Ÿšช with a limited access plan, as soon as we receive the backlogged items that will help keep us all a little safer. ๐Ÿ˜ท ๐Ÿงค ๐Ÿงฝ
If circumstances remain the same in our county, we “estimate” the date we open the doors will be Monday, May 11th.
Even when our doors are open, we will still offer/provide curbside service for the more vulnerable patrons in our community.
Please, please, please don’t hesitate to take advantage of this service.
In the meantime, take a peek at a few of the books ๐Ÿ“š that have come while we wait.
They are ready and waiting for you! With even more coming soon. ๐Ÿฅณ

RED RIVER COUNTY LIBRARY CLOSING

After careful consideration of the rapidly-evolving COVID-19/Coronavirus situation, The Red River County Public Library will be closed effective immediately until further notice.

Containment measures that are in place BEFORE the virus emerges in a community are most effective. We feel it is important, and our duty, to be proactive in taking any preventive actions that we can to protect the health of our patrons and our community. We urge all members of the community to follow the CDC guidelines found at: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html

HOWEVER, we are well aware how fundamental reading is to stave off loneliness, pass the time, and of course help us manage our mental health. During this time (that feels more like the plot of a novel than real life) we will be offering the following:

DRIVE-UP, CARRYOUT SERVICE
During select hours, staff will be available to put your items in a designated spot by our library door. Our building will remain closed to the public, but we are happy to check out books and movies to keep you busy at home! Items will be cleaned and disinfected between uses. Because of expected disruptions to our delivery service, we can not guarantee a specific title for you.
You may search our card catalog on rrlibrary.org or ask us for recommendations. Please keep your requests simple like “picture books with animals” or “Mary Higgins Clark or similar authors” or “funny movies rated PG-13 or lower.”

You can send your requests by email, Facebook message, or text.
